About Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre

OUR MISSION

Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre aspires to provide the community with recreational athletics activities that contribute to the healthy development of our children. We aim to promote fun, fitness, development of skills, building of character and self-esteem, and the fostering of good sportsmanship in a safe, positive, family-friendly and inclusive environment.

The Centre

Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre has a long and proud history, spanning 51 years. Established in the late 1960’s as Richmond Little Athletics and later renamed Hawkesbury City Little Athletics Centre, the club has helped thousands of children develop their sporting abilities and invest in a healthy and active lifestyle. In 2021, the Centre had a name change to Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre.

Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre operates at Tamplin Field in Hobartville, near Richmond. We are a family friendly and community focused not-for-profit sporting organisation that is operated entirely by our parent and family volunteers.

We are a junior sporting club, catering for children of all abilities, aged between 3 and 17 from across the Hawkesbury area. Our aim at HCAC is to promote fitness, have fun, make friends and encourage all family members to invest in a healthy and active lifestyle. We put an emphasis on personal improvement and participation and continually encourage our athletes to be the best that they can be.

Our programs at HCAC provide an array of athletic events including sprinting, middle and long distance running, hurdling, race walking, jumping (long, triple and high), throwing (discus, shot put and javelin) and cross country running. We also offer free training sessions and skills workshops/clinics to our registered athletes.

The Seasons

Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre operates all year round with two seasons:

  • Summer Season – September to March for Track & Field

  • Winter Season – March to July for Cross Country & Race Walking

The main ‘Summer Season’ attracts over 300 registered athletes to the club each year to participate in our Track and Field Program. Our weekly club competitions are held on a Tuesday night at Tamplin Field from 5:00pm. The season begins from the first week in September through to the first week in March, with a three week break over the Christmas/New Year period. Registrations open online each year on the 1st August.

The 'Winter Season' attracts athletes who want to continue to train and improve their skills for the track and field events as well as athletes who enjoy participating in Race Walking and Cross Country. We offer a weekly Cross Country Club on a Sunday afternoon at several local locations. We encourage all members of the family to get involved in this. We also encourage our athletes to join our participation teams in events such as family fun runs, State Championships and other race walking or distance running events across NSW, including the Waratah Run Series and Fun Run NSW Series.

The Competitions

Hawkesbury City Athletics Centre conducts its club competition every Tuesday night throughout the season. Points are accumulated at these weekly competitions on participation, achievement and improvement to go towards season awards at Presentation.

There are additional competitions conducted each season that our athletes are encouraged to participate in. Not only do our athletes get to compete against athletes from other centres but they also get to make great friendships.

The first of these events is the Zone Championships (involving a number of centres within our local zone). The best athletes at each zone progress to one of eight Regional Championships (four metropolitan and four country NSW). The best athletes from each Regional progress to the NSW State Track & Field Championships – which is held in March of each year at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre.

  • Zone Championships are conducted in each of the 23 Zones throughout the State. Athletes in the age groups U7 through to U17 are eligible for this event. Click here for more information.

  • The Regional Championships are held in late January or February each year. Athletes in the age groups U8 through to U17 are eligible for this event. Click here for more information.

  • The State Track & Field Championships are the culmination of the track & field competition season. The Championships are held in March each year at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Para or Multi-Class events are included as part of the State Championships each year. Click here for more information.

As well as these events, Little Athletics NSW also conducts various State Championships.

  • The ALAC (Australian Little Athletics Championships) is a two-day event held every year in April.  The event is hosted by each State or Territory on a rotational basis. All States and Territories, with the exception of the Northern Territory, are represented at the championships. Click here for more information.

  • The State Relay Championships is the largest event on the LANSW calendar in terms of number of competitors. As the name suggests the Championships are comprised entirely of relay events. The State Relays are held in November each year. Juniors (U8 to U11), compete on the Saturday and Seniors (U12 to U17) compete on the Sunday. The Championships are usually held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Click here for more information.

  • The State Combined Events Carnival is held on the first weekend in March each year, at a regional venue. At this carnival, athletes participate in ALL of the events on offer for their age group and points are allocated for performances recorded in each event, based on the Little Athletics NSW Multi-Event Pointscore tables/system. The points across all events conducted for each age group are added together to determine final results. Entries are ONLINE only. There are no refunds following initial close of entry. Click here for more information.

  • The State Cross-Country & Road Walks were, up until 2015, held on the first Sunday in July each year. In 2016 Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW combined and held two separate events Athletes in the U7 through to U17 age groups are eligible to enter the State Cross-Country. Athletes in the U9 through to U17 age groups are eligible to enter the State Road Walks. Entries are made online. There is no refund after initial close of entry. Click here for more information.

Many centres also conduct ‘Gala Days’ which are open to registered members from any centre. These are FUN days, which offer a variety of events. Again, we encourage our athletes to get involved in the different Gala Days on offer as they promote a strong team atmosphere for our athletes. Details on Gala Days can be found on our Centre Noticeboard.
